Who’s got more Medicine? Butterfly or Caterpillar?

I know we love the symbolism, the message, the Medicine of the Butterfly.
I do, too. I always have.

She is the transformed.
She is the one who has prevailed,
who has Become,
who has died the great Death and emerged even more beautiful than before.

But we're so quick to fall in love with her Beauty,
when there's another Medicine Keeper we tend to overlook.

Caterpillar.

There is SO much Medicine in Caterpillar.

She is the one who is transformed.
She begins the transformation.
She creates it.
She's the one who does the work, who lets her former self die in order to Become.

She's the one who Chooses this.

She may have, perhaps, even more potent Medicine than Butterfly. Although truly there's no need to decide — they are both potent Messengers, carrying their own specific Beauty and Medicine —

— but Butterfly is beholden to her.
She relies upon her.
She wouldn't be who she is without Caterpillar.

Because SHE is
the Shaman.

She is the Alchemist,
the Shapeshifter —
— She's the one who's not afraid to walk directly into her Dark, and begin.

And we don't get to have the one, without having Chosen from the place of the other.
